Jerry Green and his team are true advocates for our children

Jerry Green and his team are true advocates for our children. My son was being removed and discriminated against from the Riverside Unified School District. Jerry contacted his advocacy coalition and my son was allowed back into the school within three hours.

Our family was not being heard by our son’s school administration

Knowledgeable, committed, caring, supportive, and responsive are just a few words to describe how the Black Student Advocate has supported our family. We came to BSA frustrated that our family was not being heard by his school administration in regard to our son’s on-campus needs. Within an hour of speaking with Mr. Green, we had a general understanding of why the school administration wasn’t supporting our son and how to navigate its culture so that our son could have a fair opportunity for academic success. You will not find anyone better at providing your specific needs in addressing the unique challenges that African American students experience across this country.

Empowerment and knowledge is truly a game changer

Working with Mr. Jerry Green, The Black Student Advocate was a supportive and empowering experience. He taught us about what our son’s rights were not only as a student, but as a Black student who was an active and respectful member of the student body at his high school. Mr. Green spoke to our family at length about our son’s case and got to know our son and his situation, which included discrimination. He armed us with every possible tool he could to fight for our son. Other parents and even teachers at the school would ask us how we accomplished the changes that were made for our son. Well, it all started with working with the Black Student Advocate. The reward of working with Mr. Green was also that the education and knowledge we gained will be with us forever. Empowerment and knowledge is truly a game changer.

Systemic ableism has left Black Students with disabilities an afterthought by school districts

Jerry L. Green advocates that all Black Students are respected, learning, and thriving.  He is committed to catalyzing student success and eradicating the complex, pervasive, and systematic barriers that prevent Black Students with disabilities from accessing quality educational opportunities and choices, robust academic support, and inclusive learning environments. For too long, systemic ableism has left Black Students with disabilities an afterthought by school districts.

Grandson struggling in school due to expressive language disorder

My daughter and I reached out to the black student advocacy on behalf of my five-year-old grandson. He was struggling in school due to expressive language disorder. They wanted to label him autistic and establish an IEP.  Unfortunately, they were not following the IEP, he was getting kicked out frequently sometimes as early as 15 minutes into the school day, we reached out to Mr. Green he called him out for violating his civil rights, and being selective in their punishment of him as we noticed that the same thing that he was doing in class other kids were doing and not getting kicked out of school. Even though we chose to move him to a different school after so much harassment, we believe that having Mr. Green advocating for him will help other students who are in the same situation. We filed a state case against them, and it is still pending.

EQUALITY VS EQUITY

Equality means every child gets a pair of shoes.

Equity means every child gets a pair of shoes that fit.
